The Promise (September 2008 after Gator’s home loss to Mississippi)

I just want to say one thing.

To the fans and everybody in Gator Nation, I’m sorry, extremely sorry.

I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this.

You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season, and you will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season, and you will never see a team play harder that we will the rest of the season.

God bless.

- Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow National Championship Halftime Speech (2008)

Hey Let’s go! Get in here! Get in here right now!

Hey, we got 30 minutes for the rest of our lives! 30 minutes for the rest of our lives!

That’s our bet on first down, it ain’t happening!

We get the ball, I promise you one thing, were going to hit somebody and taking it down the field for a touchdown, I guarantee you that.

Look at me! Look at me!

We got 30 minutes for the rest of our lives, let’s go!

Here we go fellas, the start of something new and special and here at Florida, this spells championship (points to gator head logo on floor)

You see this gator head? (still pointing to the gator head logo) that says championship in every sport, not just basketball but every sport

Out there today, we need juice, we need exceitement, we need leadership

Everything you do out there, you do with all your might, everything

You go out there, you get the crowd excited!

Everything you do, everything!

You go out there and get the crowd excited! Let’s go!

Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete Award banquet (May 2011, Keynote Speaker)

(Excerpts)

“I was invited to come here last year and, due to being drafted by the Broncos and having OTAs, I couldn’t miss practice. I had to miss it, and I’m sorry. I’m extremely honored to be here this year and very excited.”

“Thank you to everyone who is involved, because it is very special what you do. It’s very inspirational to me to get to meet you, to get to know you. Over the past year and a half to get to understand what goes on and what you do is truly an honor. It’s very prestigious and I am very humbled to be here.”

“I believe that athletes, students, individuals deserve to be praised when they have worked hard to accomplish something. This event is not for me. I don’t deserve to be honored. I haven’t done anything. But you athletes, you have accomplished a lot that is extremely special. I am here to honor you and to say, ‘Well done.’”

“It’s incredible what you’ve done. It’s inspiring for me because you are the best of the best. You are leaders, you are role models and you’re the best of your generation. Through my speech tonight I hope you’re encouraged, I hope you’re inspired, I hope you can learn something. But also know that I am inspired by you, and to keep it up.”

“Along the way there’s going to be a lot of obstacles, a lot of adversity, a lot of people who will tell you you’re not good enough. I’m here to tell you that you are. Everyone that tells you that you’re not is because they didn’t accomplish something.”

“All of you facing tough decisions in your life right now, having to pick between schools, having to decide what you want to do with your future, I’ve got a little advice for you — trust God with it and do what you’re passionate about. That’s why I went to the University of Florida. I chose to go with someone I believed what passionate (Urban Meyer).”

“Success comes in a lot of ways, but it doesn’t come with money and it doesn’t come with fame. It comes from having a meaning in your life, doing what you love and being passionate about what you do. That’s having a life of success. When you have the ability to do what you love, love what you do and have the ability to impact people. … That’s having a life of success. That’s what having a life of meaning is.”

“For all you young people, you’re going to have an opportunity to do a lot of things in your life. Choose to do what you love. Choose to do what you’re passionate about, not what gives you the most money, not what gives you the most fame. That is fleeting, and that is fake. That will never give you happiness.”

“Every day that I step on a football field, baseball diamond, basketball court, classroom, event, whatever it is, I try to live my life with passion.”

“Passion is not adrenaline. A lot of people can get adrenaline when they start something. They can get real fired up and motivated. That’s not passion. Passion is when it’s hard. Passion is when you don’t want to wake up early in the morning. Passion is when you don’t want to stay up late studying but you do. Passion is something that comes from deep down inside. It is not when I’m on the field and I throw my arms up (in celebration). That’s adrenaline. Passion is all the nights you can’t see me working. Passion is all the nights you stay up training for your football game. Passion is when you’re tired and still doing what you know is right and what needs to be done. That’s passion.”

“Do you love what you do, and do you live with passion? If you do, it will affect everyone around you. Passion is contagious because not a lot of people have it. People want to be around passion. Ultimately I believe that it will make you successful in whatever its is that you want to do. If you have passion in your life, if you are willing to sacrifice for what you love, I believe you’ll be successful at it. I believe all of you (Winged Foot nominees) have done that, and that’s why you’re here.”

“Do you have the ability to finish strong? So many people have the ability to start something. Very few have the ability to finish strong because it’s very hard. There are a lot of trials, a lot of tribulations, a lot of adversity you will all face many times. Do you have what it takes to finish strong?”

“Things are going to be hard. There are so many obstacles. But if you already realize that and set in your mind that, ‘Whatever comes my way, I’m going to overcome it,’ … you’re going to finish strong, like we did in 2008 (at Florida) in winning the national championship.”

“Sports mean a lot to a lot of people in this room, but at the end of the day, they’re just sports. It’s not life. It isn’t just finishing strong in sports. Do you have what it takes to finish strong in life?”

“Do you have what it takes to finish strong in your sport, to finish strong in your job? More importantly, do you have what it takes to finish strong in life? Do you have what it takes? For all you athletes, I believe that you do. You inspire me, you encourage me. God bless you. Keep it up. Have passion, love what you do and finish strong.”

Tim Tebow pre-game speech Charges (November 2011)

“As iron sharpens iron, men sharpen men,” Tebow told the group, loosely quoting Proverbs 27:1

Tim Tebow Post Patriots Game Playoffs (January 2011)

“Any time you’re getting beaten like that, you just continue to fight. It doesn’t change who you are, how you play, how you go out there – you should be the same at all times. That’s what I wanted to show and it didn’t matter if it was the first play or the last play or if we were down by 42, I was going to be the same player and I was going to still give everything I have because that’s all I have to give. Every time I step on the field, I’m going to give my whole heart regardless of the score.”

“Our strength grows out of our weaknesses” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Failure

Failure, we all experienced it in life one time or another. Failure is the lack of success or a state or condition of meeting a desirable or intended objective.

If not careful, failure can be a real negative effect on your life…….if you let it.

Negative Effects of Failure

Giving up

Feeling depressed

More stress

Desire & Motivation reduces

Low Self esteem

Anger

Feeling stupid or less than whole

Denial

It’s only natural that we all want to be successful in everything we do but in reality we can never win or achieve success 100% of the time, so failure becomes imminent.

“I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

Turning Failure into Self Confidence

1.) The first step in achieving productive and positive results with failure is to be okay with the fact that we might fail time and time again. We don’t have to accept failure but we do have to adapt to failure and cope with the fact that failure is only natural in life.

2.) Next is using failure as motivation. Most people view failures as demoralizing however failures are the perfect opportunity to keep pushing forward in order to achieve our goal. Never be complacent and never go backwards, keep your eye on the prize and keep pushing forward. There are only 2 places in life where people give up, rock bottom and the very top.

You might ask why do people give up once they reach the top? Simple, there is no where else to go and no goals in place so most people give up rather than starting new goals and creating new limits. So use failures as motivation to keep pushing forward and as a reason to move up.

3.) The third step is utilizing positive thinking psychology. There was a case study done once where 2 groups of students switched places for 6 months. One group were the smart kids and the other group were the less performing kids. The smart kids who got transferred to a lower level, drastically felt inferior and were constantly being told they were wrong and feeling demoralized while the less performing kids were constantly being praised and given positive feedback. Eventually the less performing kids actually tested higher and the smart kids tested lower overall.

With this example you can see why having a positive outlook can be very effective in combating failures. You must have a positive mind set when dealing with failures and no matter how hard it is feel negative or down, you must dig deep and push to stay positive and find that silver lining in the cloud.

4.) The last step in dealing with failures to become self confident is the most important step and that is to learn from your mistakes when you fail. Failures are just stepping stones to where you can learn from your mistakes in order to keep moving forward and becoming the best you can be in the future. No one is perfect in life and I believe that failures are given to us so we can learn from them, improve from them and to be successful later.

Utilize these 4 steps in turning failures into self confidence.

Confidence is Power

Call it what you will, Swagger, Cocky or Confidence, these traits exude Power. My blog is based on the majestic alpha animal, the all powerful Lion. In the animal kingdom, this powerful alpha beast shows its dominance by his movement, posture and voice. In the real world, humans are no different.

You know the saying about the 10 second rule? You can walk into a room and size up a person within the first 10 seconds, that’s why they say make your first impressions last. In corporate America, the most confident person can be spotted very easily by the way he carries himself, the way he moves and his posture when sitting or standing. He/She let’s everyone knows they are there in the room and usually the non-confident person tries to make him/herself less noticeable.

So why should you care if you are confident or not?

Studies show confidence can reduce stress

In a recent study by Dana Carney, Amy Cuddy, and Andy Yap in the book “Power Posing”, reveals psychological and behavioral changes typically associated with powerful people. Confident people felt more powerful, were more willing to take risks, and experienced significant increases in testosterone along with decreases in cortisol (the body’s chemical response to stress.)

Ever notice why the top sales people or the fast movers and shakers in corporate America move up and keep going up, confidence is definitely the key. Besides, who doesn’t want more stress in life?

So below are 5 useful tips to jump-start your confidence into power transformation.

5 tips to gain confidence and power

1. Posture – Don’t slouch, as simple as this may sound this is where people mess up the most. When you walk or sit, keep the shoulders upright, show the world you are here and be noticed. This simple fix will increase the perception that you are very confident.

Also just like the golden rule in interview techniques, always do a firm handshake even if it’s a female. I remember one time I shook a female ceo’s hand very lightly and she blasted me because I should always shake everyone’s hand with the same firmness, never again did I shake another females hand very lightly.

Last but not least is eye contact, we all know it’s important to keep eye contact but the big mistake is when we stare like a robot. Be firm with your eye contact, gaze deep in the eyes but always…always…make sure to make it seem natural by looking away at times or raising the eyebrows with emotions. Staring like a mad man just to keep eye contact is a big no no.

2. Tone – Don’t be soft spoken when you talk, a strong and firm tone can increase your confidence perception like night and day…it’s that dramatic! Even if you don’t have a strong voice, always make sure even if you are unsure of the words coming out your mouth to be crisp and firm. Raise the tone when you talk and you will see a difference.

3. Movement – There is a reason why people say that a person has swag in their walk its because when they walk they reveal that they are confident. Don’t walk with a slouch(posture) and don’t walk too fast to avoid people. When walking around the office, make sure people notice you, walk in the middle of the walkway (if no one is in-front of you), walk openly and lastly walk with your chin up and head held high. Royalty does this for a reason, its to show leadership and in order to achieve power through confidence, keep your head held high(its not just a saying folks).

4. Mind – Do not over think things! Just be yourself and don’t care what other people think, this is the biggest reason why some analytical people (nerds) gain a bad reputation…they are NOTORIOUS for over thinking…and that’s why the dumb jocks are NOTORIOUS for being confident, its because they don’t over-think as much…makes sense?

5. Attitude – POSITIVE POSITIVE POSITIVE….leave out the insecurities and negativity, its poison. Every time you think negative or become unsure of yourself, you are actually poisoning your brain to train it in making you feel like a loser when you are actually not! Get out of the mindset and quicksand, you always want to reassure self with positive thoughts on a daily basis.

Fish for compliments, be humble and grateful and most importantly start beginning to love yourself again. You can be stuck being a normal looking person or you can display confidence in everything you do and can actually be perceived as a powerful, good looking and charismatic human being…now which do you prefer?

Having a lack of self-confidence seems to be everyone’s downfall in life. The way you view and feel about yourself directly affects your confidence and if that self image is not in a positive manner, then your confidence will go downhill.

It’s very hard to always have high self-esteem and have high self-confidence always in life because there are many things that you can’t control in life that will cross your path.

Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

The Serenity Prayer reminds us that although we shouldn’t stress about the things we can’t control life but only focus on the things you can control.

So here are some tips in Boosting & Improving your Self-Confidence

1. Attitude. This is probably the most important tip in building self-confidence and probably the hardest. Attitude affects everything, if you think you are a failure then so you will be one. However, if you believe you can succeed then you will succeed. Start implementing Positive Thinking into your daily life more often and the end result can be life changing.

2. Posture. Studies have shown that sitting up straight, walking with your held up high and making eye contact can greatly boost your confidence level. You want to make an impression that you are confident in the way you carry yourself at all times. Start complimenting your inner positive confidence with the way you handle things on the outside. You do not want to break the balance by just having a positive attitude.

3. Energy. Are you always feeling down or lethargic? Boost up your confidence levels by getting your energy back. The most simple and effective way to get energy is by working out in the mornings to start off your day right. Increasing energy does not mean to take an energy drink but a more effective approach would be finding healthier foods and great workouts to include in your self-confidence goal.

4. Behavior. Don’t like how things are going in your life? Then change it up! A quick change of habits or environment can greatly affect your positive self-image. Try something new and get out of the rut that has kept you reaching your full confidence potential. If you park in the same parking spot everyday, try a new parking spot. Try a new place to get coffee. Whatever it is, keep it fresh and out of your element and that way your not stuck in an endless rut.

5. Appearance. If you want your inner self-image to be positive then you must also reflect that image on the outside. Dress for success and keep your physical appearance well groomed and clean. It’s okay to be empowered with your appearance because as long as you make that effort to make yourself look nice then your mind will match that with confidence. Don’t take this improvement face value by buying all these expensive clothes and make overs but to wear something nice once in a while to transition your mind that you are confident in your appearance as-well.

6. Smile. Smile, Smile, Smile. I can’t tell you enough how simple and effective this tip can be. Not only will you notice how your mood and attitude will change but others will too. Studies have shown that the simple act of smiling will greatly increase your attitude and will receive more positive influences just from your smile alone.

7. Strengths. A tip from management I learned is to focus on strengths and not weaknesses. A weakness is associated with negativity and a strength is associated with positivity. Take a moment and reflect upon yourself what are your strengths and keep your strengths in mind as a champions creed.

8. Organize. Sometimes your schedule in life at work or home can be very daunting and frustrating. Start getting more organized with your goals and tasks more often so you won’t fall in the habit of feeling frustrated or under-accomplished all the time. Simple steps as getting a new day planner or finishing tasks before you start another can really help you organize your day better to achiever better self-confidence results.

9. Acceptance. Going back to the serenity prayer about not worrying about the things we can’t control, Failure is one of them. We have to accept failures in order to proceed forward in life. Look at failures as learning points and opportunities to do better next time. Do not dwell on failures as that can lead to a turmoil of negative thoughts.

10. Overcome fear. Fear is one of the biggest obstacles in gaining self-confidence. You have to set aside all your emotions on fear and dive right into the root of the problem. If its objection from people then practice Acceptance and try over and over again. Eventually you will gain the ability in being confident in who you are where objections from people will not even be on your radar in the future of stuff to worry about. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

11. Vision / Goals. This goes hand in hand with organize. Have self worth and motivation for your confidence, plan out goals and vision yourself in a positive manner in achieving them. Having a goal to work for and strive for should help you keep maintained in improving your overall self-confidence. Aim your goals high and achieve excellence.

Having a lack of self-confidence seems to be everyone's downfall in life. The way you view and feel about yourself directly affects your confidence and if that self image is not in a positive manner, then your confidence will go downhill.

It's very hard to always have high self-esteem and have high self-confidence always in life because there are many things that you can't control in life that will cross your path.

Serenity Prayer

“There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can’t. What you’ve got to do is turn around and say, ‘watch me’.” – Layne Beachley

It seems like all my life I had people who told me I couldn’t do or be something. Most recently in my life, I had people doubt my abilities and really made me doubt for a second in my own abilities.

After consulting with my friends and taking a step back to reassess the situation, I made it my drive to prove my naysayers wrong. As a matter of fact, I actually went ABOVE and BEYOND my goal.

It really feels good when you set your mind on something and finally achieving the results you wanted. Just like anything in life, obstacles and adversity will always be there and the true test is how you react to those obstacles. Will you give up or push forward?

Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. – Michael Jordan

In my line of work of Sales & Consultation, I remember back my most successful time in the business is when I bounced back from a low point and came in over the top to prove that I don’t get knocked down very easily.

Personally I found that was my biggest drive, not the money or praise but being able to prove to the world and myself that I “CAN” and “WILL” do it!

Be persistent and resilient, when you are tired and you feel you cannot go another step, reach deep inside and press on.

People Who Say You Can’t

I know I have always said to stay away from negative people but what happens when you can’t? These people are the so-called haters, doubters and the non-believers. There are two things that I like implementing when you are up against these people.

1.) Faith - Just like in the Church of God, you must have faith. Trust in yourself and trust that you can do it. Once you give up and settle at failing then you will never truly succeed in moving forward.

“You have to believe in yourself when no one else does.” ~ Venus Williams

2.) Reverse the negativty – Believe it or not, you can look at the situation as a positive. Sometimes all it takes is a different perspective and by not focusing on depression and frustration from the negative. Redirect your focus on using it as your strength and drive to overcome this adversity. Focus on the end result.

“A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can’t do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do” – Chuck Norris

Watch Me

The difference in people who are successful and not are those that actually bounce back from failures and doubters. If you believe you will fail then you will fail but if you believe that you will succeed then you will succeed.

So I encourage everyone to take a step back when people doubt you and use it as your drive to show those people that you can do it.

Positive Reinforcement

On January 23rd 2010 I had the privilege in help organizing and speaking at a Social Media Event in Virginia Beach. The event had many different specialty fields in marketing and a diverse audience that all came together for one main event.

It was a long journey from September 2009 to January 2010. We had some new to speaking events and some were veterans but all in all the event was still a stressful journey, like most events. We had lost a lot of potential speakers and had to change the line-up a few times but eventually it did work out in the end and what a bittersweet relief it was. It was still an amazing feeling accomplishing a vision that you had portrayed a couple months back and manifesting it into a successful reality.

Looking back, I seem to of taken this event by the reins and took on a leadership role within the group. I had noticed that it was very difficult to sometimes keep people focused on the task at hand and keep them motivated as it was almost a 6 month process with a lot of Holidays in between. I have found that staying positive and giving my group positive reinforcement and excitement has helped tremendously both before and after the event.

It is the little things that can have an impact on people’s lives and I believed in my group which contributed to more success. Sometimes people just need someone in their corner to encourage them it’s going to be ok and to make them dig up the courage and believe in themselves it will be a successful event.

Again there were a lot of obstacles that could of spelled disaster for the event but I chose the high road and focused on strengths and not weaknesses. Without the push in the right direction and motivation of doing a great job with the event, some members of the group could of easily drifted away or crumble. As a leader, we must show positive reinforcement within our group as a testament of believing in them for without it then why should they believe in you.

When I was in High school, at every prep rally right before a big football game, our whole school would recite a motivation creed to get the whole school pumped up.

The creed went something like this:

I am Somebody

I will strive

I will persevere

and I will win

because I am somebody

Now the whole entire school and staff would get up from their seats, chant these lines from the top of their lungs and transform themselves into a hype machine filled with energy. It was an amazing spectacle at my school because if you were rebelling and didn’t wish to stand you were easily spotted and casted out. I would have to say that not many if any were left sitting down not joining in the big chant.

Self Preparation

Now we all know about pep talks and self mood lifts that will help you prepare for the rest of the day, mainly known from the great mentor Tony Robbins.

Self preparation is nothing new and is often overlooked in incorporating into your daily routine or right before a big major event. The reason for a creed or a pep talk is to get you mentally prepared for the challenges that awaits for you for the rest of the day. You never want to do anything without being first prepared for something. Just like you would never take a test without studying first the same should be looked at when going into a big event or even on a daily basis to overcome daily challenges.

Once you coach yourself to success then you will manifest success from your thoughts to reality. Get into the habit of practicing this often. If you believe then you will achieve. Start believing.

Champions Creed

One of the greatest creeds out there is a from a three-time Olympian named Ruben Gonzalez. He developed a Champion Creed used by many athletes, survivors (abuse, cancer etc), students and many more that uses the creed as a crutch into manifesting their hopes and dreams into reality.

Develop your own Champion Creed that is more tailored to your niche and start incorporating it into your schedule.

Below is the Famous Champions Creed:

I am a champion.

I believe in myself.

I have the will to win.

I set high goals for myself.

I surround myself with winners.

I’m cool, positive, and confident.

I’m willing to pay the price of success.

I stay relaxed and in control at all times.

I focus all my energy on the job at hand.

I take responsibility for all of my results.

I have the courage to endure and persist.

I vividly imagine what victory will feel like.

I am a champion and I will win.

Cocky vs Confidence

More often than not, people mistake being “Cocky” in place of “Confidence”. Cockiness in people’s eyes is a self indulgent snob who can care less about the people around them.

However, the dictionary labels Cockiness as:

“very self-confident or self-assertive”

We often jump to conclusions and mindlessly self-judge people without notice. Majority of times, people who seem Cocky to us makes us feel inferior in someway through jealousy or judging too quickly. Unless that person is a total jerk to people around them, I encourage you next time to stop and open your minds for a second to look at a different point of view of that person.

Lil Wayne Theory

Rap artist Lil Wayne calls himself the greatest rapper alive. Now most people may disagree and some people may actually agree on that statement, we may never know if he’s the greatest rapper alive but he is already achieved that status without even proving it. Read his exact quote below:

“I don’t think I’m better than anybody personally. I don’t think I’m better than anybody spiritually. I don’t think I’m better than anybody in any way or form or fashion. But as far as this rap thing, I think I am better than everybody. I’m a competitor and I hope everybody feels the same way about their craft.“

Lil Wayne has just shown that his state of mind is that already he is the best and in order to be the best you have to first think that you are the best before you do anything else.

The first step is getting your head in the game, getting in that mental state to prepare you for your end line goal and status. Going back to proverb 23:7 What a man thinketh, so is he just signifies that whatever you believe, you become. Think like a winner, you are a winner. Think like you might fail, then you will fail.

Confidence

It’s okay to be Confident. It’s okay to show that you are assertive and you know your stuff. People will always judge and critique on the sidelines, it’s up to you to be the forefront and stand out from the rest. Be Bold, Be a Leader, Show that whatever you do you do it with a Rockstar confidence. Own your strengths and don’t focus on your weakness, everyone has them but focus more on improving your strengths.

The people who don’t succeed spends majority of their time blending in and judging everyone while they sit back and watch everyone surpass them in life. Do you want to be that person who just feeds into negative energy? Sure call me Cocky but it’s my confidence in my ability to do whatever in life is what’s going to make me successful, how about you?
